To date, there are still some services that offer the WebAuthn authentication method. Firefox now also allows password-free login for Android devices.
After Firefox and Chrome browsers, Firefox for Android now supports free password login. The login then works on biometric properties such as fingerprint.
This is accomplished through the WebAuthn (Web Authentication) authentication method, which has recently become the official Internet standard. That's why there are hardly any services that WebAuthn offers to date.
WebAuthn works as follows: If in addition to the browser the respective service supports this method, the user only needs one identification component to log in – for example, a fingerprint sensor on the smartphone.

In addition WebAuthn can also act as a so-called second factor in logins to better secure an account. The principle is called Duplicate Authentication (2FA) and works as follows: You enter your password, but you must also identify yourself with a second item. This can be a special USB stick, smartphone with app or biometric login procedure.
So far, however, services like Dropbox, Facebook or Google support WebAuthn only as a second factor, but not for direct login. The same is true for Microsoft, where logging in accounts with WebAuthn-2FA only works on Windows. (AP)
