TORONTO – Swedish home food Ikea says that around 150 jobs in Canada could have been affected for two years, because it is adjusted to changing customer behavior.
The retailer expects to cut 7,500 jobs worldwide as it involves urbanization, new technology and digitalization that change the way customers live and buy.
Ikea says that the losses will allow it to focus "on its business platform, to better meet the needs of its customers and to be more convenient and accessible to many more people."
"In addition, to ensure that we are in due course for long-term growth, we look closely at all matters of the business, even as we have been structured as a company," said the company in news condition.
While new roles will be created through the Canadian network, it says that some works will be "relocated, changed or deleted."
Of the 150 employees to be affected, up to 50 at their Canadian national office office can be overwhelmed, it said.
The retailer says it will explore new shop formats, improve the in-sales experience, invest in its digital experience, improve its service and optimize its broadcasting networks.
This includes open shops in urban centers to complete their larger places. The company opens stores in 30 largest city
"We do not have specific expansion plans to announce today for Ikea Canada. However, I can share it, but our goal is to grow and expand Ikea in Canada," she wrote via email.
Ikea Canada uses 6,500 people throughout the country, including 6,300 at stores.
