A member of the Airdrie RCMP is in a Kalga hospital in a stable condition after being hit by a car driving this morning (December 1) in Airdrie.
At about 2:10 I, Airdrie RCMP tried to stop a suspicious vehicle on Yankee Valley Boulevard. While members stood for traffic, the suspicious vehicle ran away safely.
RCMP members chased the vehicle until it stopped suddenly at the intersection of Cooper's Crossing Gate and Cooper's Drive. The members left their unmarked police car and began to approach the suspicious vehicle when it suddenly turned off at high speed, hitting one of the officers and knocking the two police vehicles. It thinks that the official RCMP was dragged by the vehicle. One of the police vehicles that were beaten was intact.
The suspicious vehicle then fled the scene, knocking a busy civil vehicle, and left it uninhabitable. Members chased the vehicle and finally left the road in a ditch at Township Road 270 and Range Road 290. The HAWCS's helicopter of the Calgary Police Service was on stage after being called to help Airdrie RCMP.
Three people in the vehicle were arrested after entering the pit. The driver was kidnapped and was a short time later by the Airdrie Police Dog Service. During the arrest, a second officer was also injured, but the importance of the wounds is unknown.
The member who hit the car is currently at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary in a stable state.
Cooper's Crossing Gate and Cooper's Drive were interrupted after the event and were not open until 8:00 am while the RCMP Collision Reconstructionist examined the scene.
The investigation of the incident continues.
