"Lack of a mental health culture"

Javier Ravinet, director of the Chilean Society of Mental Health, attributes the growth of these pathologies to the extensive work hours and many responsibilities in various fields, but also "the lack of a mental health culture".

However Pablo Salinas, a psychiatrist and academic from the U.N. Faculty of Medicine, does not rule out that this increase in licensing is due to increased coverage.

"For example with the addition of depression to the AUGE plan. We cover these diseases more, they are more diagnosed and we are showing a problem that exists, "he said.

While these disorders can affect anyone, Salinas said that some workers are more vulnerable.

"It is known, for example, that the people who work public attention They are more exposed to work stress. That is why call centers are falling because dealing with anger from other people is a very important stress factor, ”he explained.
