
Tests to provide services to women who could inherit the gene, which leaves them at increased risk for breast cancer, were suspended for months at St James' Hospital in Dublin.
Actress Angel Jolie, who has labored in such a test, has undergone a double mastectomy in recent years to prevent breast cancer.
According to the hospital spokesman, the family risk service has been suspended since April because of the requirement for its X-ray facility in symptomatic patients.
According to her, the funding was recently received to replace one mammogram machine and buy a third, which is expected to be available early next year. This will help relieve the delays experienced by patients waiting to have their mammography.
