The Foreign Ministry said yesterday that Egypt rejected the visit of Minister Aloysio Noñez Pereira, two diplomatic sources said that following the commitment of President George Paulsono to transfer his country's embassy to Israel to Jerusalem.
Nunez Ferreira is expected to travel to Cairo on November 8-11, during which he will meet with President Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi and his Egyptian counterpart, Samah Shukri.
The Foreign Ministry said yesterday that the Egyptian Foreign Ministry rejected the visit of Nunez Ferreira, based on a lack of conformity on the agenda of senior officials.
But officials at the Foreign Ministry, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the incident, confirmed that no new date had been set, and hinted at Egypt's dissatisfaction with the Polsonarro proposal.
The Egyptian embassy in Brasilia was not answered.
Paulsono is responsible for the transfer of the embassy along with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, who made the move in May after admitting that the city is the capital of Israel. The Palestinians demand that Jerusalem be their capital.
His commitment is consistent with Brazil's long-standing foreign policy in support of the two-state solution to the conflict between the Palestinians and Israel.
