Indian artist Badshah recently hit BTS A YouTube record having the most views in the first twenty-four hours after release.
Bollywood singer MV for "Paagal" amassed around 75 million views in just twenty-four hours while "Boy with Luv" had 74.6 million.
However, YouTube does not congratulate Badshah, prompting the artist to speak out and say that YouTube discriminated against him because he was Indian.
Other people, such as rival companies, also stated that Badshah was only likely to get such high views by buying YouTube ads and bots.
However, the practice of advertising and marketing is actually quite common and also done by other agencies, others have pointed out.
According to Bloomberg:
"The event has sparked scrutiny of what many in the music industry say is a common practice – to buy tens of millions of views. When releasing a new single, mainstream music publishers will buy an ad on YouTube, which puts their music video among other clips. looks at the ad for more than a few seconds, YouTube counts that as a view, increasing the total. Blackpink and Swift did it anyway. Badshah just took it a step further, people familiar with the matter say. "
Do you think YouTube has double standards and doesn't give Badshah credit? Feel free to share your thoughts
