Barcelona would have negotiated with the player without Atletico Madrid's agreement.
The soap opera linked to the transfer of Antoine Griezmann to FC Barcelona is not over yet. Atletico Madrid, a club that the Frenchman joined in the summer of 2014 from Real Sociedad, is still questioning the legality of the player's transfer.
As a reminder, Antoine Griezmann signed in Catalonia after July 1 (exactly 12), a date when the world champion's release clause went from 200 million to 120 million euros.
While he waited for the month of July, Barça managed to save the modest sum of 80 million. Apart from that for Athletics, the Barcelona club would have already made contact with Grizou before that date (and therefore when the release clause was still 200 million euros). All this while the rules of FIFA are clear: a club cannot contact a player without going through the club.
For Madrid, FC Barcelona would set up this transfer well before July on their backs. And the Athletic management is working to find evidence that will showcase these practices.
This Monday morning, the Spanish newspaper El Mundo argues that the people of Madrid have found this much sought after evidence: they would have an email sent around March by lawyer Griezmann to his family about his arrival in Catalonia. .
"If Barça agreed in March, there will be consequences," said Enrique Cerezo, president of Atletico Madrid, who has filed a complaint to the Spanish League for opposing the transfer. If justice gives reason to Madrid, FC Barcelona could be forced to pay the 80 million euros that the club has so far failed to pay.
