Dacia Duster is currently enjoying a good time in terms of sales, but prosperity doesn't last forever. Volkswagen wants to launch a highly competitive urban SUV that will attract the attention of the European car market. There will be nothing innovative. It will be more of a combination between two of the company's top models, but it may be a better offer than what the Romanian brand currently has.
Why Dacia Duster is so popular
Wondering what happens to car makers who have begun to focus a lot on the production of SUVs and crossovers? It is a small paradox as the European Union is increasingly pressured to reduce pollutant emissions. And we all know that SUVs are the biggest fuel users. The answer is simple: there is a high demand for SUVs in European markets.
Unfortunately, consumers don't care much about the polish they inspire daily because they want a good car, as they say. Romanians have always wanted a car to use and when they go to the cinema, but also when they go through the countryside to do difficult things, or holidays in the mountains. When Romanians started to have higher incomes, they also turned to SUVs or crossovers. That's why Dacia Duster is so successful now.
Westerners have also discovered the benefits of a single car that can handle many types of roads, rather than buying one car for every need.
Volkswagen wants a competitive SUV that goes beyond cheap cars like the Dacia Duster
The German company has decided to make major investments to enter the race of electric cars that are gaining momentum but also want to capture the trend of SUVs. Whatever polish rules allows for this though.
Volkswagen will have a new urban SUV that will be a combination of the current T-Cross and Polo. A strange addition, but we will see it only in the second half of 2021. And by 2020 it will enter some markets in Europe.
