When the body gets enough sun – that is, a sufficient amount of UVB radiation – it usually produces enough vitamin D. This is one of the conclusions of a recent study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology. This shows, according to research director Amr Marawan of Virginia Commonwealth University in the US, "that higher vitamin D level with better training ability is connected."
This study examined whether people with higher levels of vitamin D in the blood have a better cardiorespiratory fitness. Cardiorespiratory fitness shows how much respiration and blood flow supply the body with oxygen. There is a link between higher levels of vitamin D and better mobility among men and women, young and middle age groups, regardless of body mass index.
These new findings are suitable for a whole range of research results from recent years. "Those who bring the level of vitamin D up to speed can perform better in sports, but vitamin D deficiency may cause athletic performance to collapse," he wrote recently in the German portal Health Center for an overview of various studies on the subject. Various studies with athletes have shown, for example, higher oxygen consumption due to vitamin D, decreased muscle inflammation, and increased energy levels. But before you take vitamin D in the form of drops or tablets, you should measure the vitamin D levels of a family doctor and get advice on the specified dosage, if necessary. Because overdose over a long period of time can also be harmful.
