Samsung has removed the headphone port from its new flagship phones, after the South Korean giant used to use the headphone port on its mobile phones as a marketing tool against Apple. In the details, Samsung reflected what it used to be when announcing phones (Galaxy Note 10), as the phones do not have a standard 3.5mm headphone port. The Galaxy Note series has historically tried to distinguish itself from Apple iPhones by features not owned by Apple, such as the styling, spacious storage, and headphone port. Samsung also mocked in 2016 the lack of a headphone port inside the iPhone 7 by pointing at someone using an iPhone with a set of adapters attached, allowing him to listen to music and charge the device at the same time.
Phil Schiller, Apple's vice president of world marketing, explained why Apple decided to leave the headset on, saying: "The reason for moving is courage, courage to go ahead and do something new that benefits us all."
Apple then introduced its wireless AirPods, which quickly became the most popular Bluetooth headset, making it easy to switch to wireless headphones.
Samsung said it had removed the headphone port to provide additional battery capacity, and thus, a longer battery life for Galaxy Note users.
